Our Hall Closet Makeover

Here is our hall closet makeover.  The layout of our coat closet was a nightmare for us.   The rod for hangers, when full, totally blocked the shelves. The shelves became either a catchall for stuff we never used, out of sight, out of mind.  We definitely needed a redo.

First step was to figure out how I wanted to use this space.   A place to hang coats backpacks (my sons are in college), umbrellas.   Storage for hats, gloves, etc. A place to leave shoes, out of sight, but quick to grab.

I totally gutted the closet of the rod, shelves and old hooks.  Two new, deeper, shelves went in, and I added Fabric Storage Cube for the hats and gloves.  I labeled the boxes, of course, because I try to label everything.  I also added some newer Wall Mounted Hooks with a burnished bronze finish.   No more hangers.  Yay.

Next part was my favorite.  I made a rectangular frame out of scrap 2X4s that I had laying around in our garage.  This then got attached to the walls with heavy duty screws.  I then upholstered a piece of plywood, again from the garage.  This went right on top of the frame.   Wallah!!!!   A bench to sit while you take your shoes off and a place to put them, instead of all over our living room.
